Know The History Of Men’s Watches

Although men’s watches have been around since the 18th century, they have initially considered women’s accessories and were worn almost exclusively by ladies.

Men wore pocket watches which were very fashionable at the time. These magnificent objects were (as the name implies) worn in the pocket and attached to the vest/blazer, to the belt buckle with a chain or a leather cord.

The transition from pocket watch to men’s wristwatch was started by a London company that created the first “men’s wristwatch” model in 1893. However, this accessory only became a trend in the early 19th century. With the outbreak of war, the use of the wristwatch became democratized as it was not practical to feel in your pocket to check the time. Soldiers synchronized their movements during combat. And so, the wristwatch invaded the market—functional, modern, and full of potential.

Because they were mainly used within military activities, the first wristwatches were known as “trench watches.” They had the classic round shape of a pocket watch with a lid. However, they could be worn on the wrist thanks to a strong metal cord.

Due to the speed at which technology develops these days, men’s wristwatches have progressed relatively slowly. Mechanical watches were the only alternative until 1923; John Harwood invented the first self-winding watch. In the 1950s, electronic watches saw the light of day, and quartz watches appeared in the 1970s.

The style they emanate is far more dynamic than pocket watches. The classic men’s watch like Rolex ผู้หญิง in leather and metal has enjoyed tremendous success, but there is an endless number of timepieces made in different and varied shapes, colors, and materials.
